Our goal with the Storm King fight was to really sell the idea that this monstrosity was the harbinger of the storm. We wanted the player to not only feel as if they were caught up in a battle with the giant creature, but a mighty tempest as well. Then, with the Stormruler in hand, they could fight storm with storm. Aside from sheets of rain, splashes of storm water, and swirling winds, one of my favorite details was triggering a flash of lightning each time the player swings Stormruler - a subtle but awesome touch that really solidifies the idea that you are now the one in command of the power of the storm.
The VFX team really flexed their muscles with this one, as well as our materials and lighting teams who also helped bring this environment to life.
