Demon's Souls - Shrine of Storms

These concepts were done rather late in production, after a lot of initial environment creation was done. The focus here was on lighting, atmosphere, set dressing, and pushing the elements we already had working in the game to really capture Mark's vision for the stage. The premise for the exterior of the Shrine of Storms was that it was a long-forgotten shrine that had once been an ancient battlefield. In the first image, I included an array of swords and armaments stabbed into the ground, as if erected like gravestones for the fallen warriors, and really tried to push the gnarled aspect of the trees' roots, as if they were clinging to the rocks for life. For both images, I wanted to create a lighting scheme that spoke of a mighty storm just rolling in overhead.
